Online Help
You
can choose the language you wish to view the site: English or Portuguese. Just
click on the upper right corner to change the language (A). Also in this
corner, you can turn the simple page into a full screen page (B).
B A
To
start the search, choose a technical area in the menu on the upper left corner (C).

You
can, when selecting an area, go down into four more sub-fields inside it (its
internal division) for a more specific search.
On the left side
of the screen you find the view menus: kind of exhibition, kind of search and
external search. |
On the right side,
the entry is shown in English and Portuguese. |

The kinds of exhibition
represent two different moments in dictionaries history:
2. Extended exhibition:
the new dictionaries, in electronic way, offer this search way where each item
of the entry description appears in different lines. Note, in this example,
that not all the fields are fulfilled. This happens because the information we
got from the corpus was not enough to fulfill all the available fields.
In English
In Portuguese
The kinds of searches were divided in three:
Total: it shows all the available fields (see the example
above).
Translator: it shows the fields considered
more important by the professional translators (note that not all the fields
from the previous example are shown here). See the following example:
Modular: in this search, you choose the fields you want to
see. See the following example. We selected, in it, the extended kind of
exhibition and checked out (when you click the mouse on the blue fields on the
left side, they turn gray) the fields gender, morphosyntactic variants,
complete word, corpus, examples, encyclopedic information and cross-reference.
Besides the
amount of internal searches available, you can also do external searches on
many sites. Here you find a summary of each of them; to access them, just click
in the desired one, wait for the insertion box to appear, write the desired
term and click <enter> in your keyboard:
Corpus NILC: the term you type here will be searched in the general corpus of
NILC project (Núcleo Interinstitucional de Lingüística Computacional) and it
will be shown through a KWIC structure (the term appears in the middle of the page).
Corpus available in Portuguese.
Google: the term will be searched in the most famous search
engine on the Internet.
Answers.com: the term will be searched in this
site, a mix of dictionary and encyclopedia, in English.
Wikipedia: the term will be searched in the most famous
online encyclopedia. In Portuguese.
CORTEC: site that works with many technical corpora. There
you can search for wordlists, concordancers, and other tools. When you click in
this link, a new page will be opened. Corpora available in Portuguese.
